It wasn’t all work and no play in early Willamette. Pioneers had priorities. They loved their riverfront!
A lovely, if steep, stroll takes visitors south down 12th. Street to Willamette Park where the Willamette River is wide and smooth before plunging over the majestic falls only a mile or so downstream. Spot osprey, seagulls and maybe even an eagle. Imagine a time when huge old growth logs rolled end-over-end toward tribal fishing grounds or pioneer settlements in Oregon City.
Today, the park has a spouting wading pool, picnic shelters, concert stages and oh yes, ball fields: 1 baseball, 2 softball, 1 grass volleyball court and 1 sand volleyball court.
Combined with adjacent Bernert’s Landing, Willamette Park forms a 22.5 acre crescent fronting the Willamette and Tualatin rivers. The boat ramp and docks provide easy access for all types of water sports.
