If it’s history you’re after, you’ve come to the right place.
Native Americans first enjoyed the lush valley and abundant fishing at tribal gathering grounds below the dramatic plunging waters they termed “tum tum” after their word for heartbeat. We call it Willamette Falls. The third largest falls in the country continue to be a source of recreation and commerce.
In the early 1800s, Trappers followed the tribal trails upriver. A town plat dates back to the mid-1850s. In the 1890s, homes were built to house employees of the Willamette Falls Electric Company, now Portland General Electric. It’s not surprising that Willamette was wired early.
We’re still wired! A large number of home-based professionals frequent our coffee shops and local eateries. The one-time home to mills and shoe factories, Willamette is surging with vitality and living history.
